Commonwealth Games: Cameroon’s Eseme breaks 100m record as Nigeria’s Ajayi finishes third
Cameroon’s Emmanuel Eseme broke the Commonwealth Games men’s 100 metres record, clocking 9.83 seconds to win gold. At the same time, Australia’s Lachlan Kennedy took silver in 9.85 seconds, and Nigeria’s Kayinsola Ajayi claimed bronze in 9.90 seconds.
Eseme recovered from a slow start to make a new record of 9.83 at the Commonwealth Games, breaking the previous record held by Trinidad and Tobago’s Ato Boldon at 9.88 seconds.

The Cameroonian also broke Trinidad and Tobago’s Ato Boldon’s Commonwealth Games record of 9.88 seconds.
Kennedy followed closely behind Eseme with 9.85 seconds, breaking Patrick Johnson’s Australian and Oceania record of 9.93s in 2003.
Ajayi clinched the bronze medal at the Scotstoun Stadium in Glasgow, becoming the fourth Nigerian to win a medal in the 100m at the Commonwealth Games.
