A Grade A Customary Court sitting at Mapo in Ibadan, Oyo State, has dissolved the 11-year-old marriage between Olajumoke Ogunsola and her estranged husband, Femi Ogunsola, over alleged laziness, drunkenness and irresponsibility.

Delivering judgment on Thursday, the President of the court, O.E. Owoseni, held that the marriage was dissolved because the petitioner was no longer interested in continuing with the relationship.

Mrs Owoseni granted custody of the two children from the union, aged eight and three, to the petitioner.

She also ordered Ogunsola to cater for the children’s education, feeding and general welfare.

The court further restrained the respondent from threatening, harassing or interfering in the private life of the petitioner.

Earlier, the petitioner, who resides at Olomi-Olunde, told the court that her husband’s alleged laziness, drunkenness and irresponsibility forced her out of the marriage.

“When Ogunsola and I met in South Africa where we were hustling, things were going on well and I later became pregnant for him.

“After our wedding ceremony on January 4, 2015, I soon discovered that he was a lazy man who prefers late night keeping, smoking and drinking alcohol.

“As a result of Ogunsola’s laziness, he became irresponsible not only toward me, but also to the children. This is the reason why I moved out of his house since September 21, 2021.

“My lord, please grant me custody of the children and let him pay N50,000 monthly feeding allowance for their monthly upkeep,” she pleaded with the court.

Ogunsola was, however, absent in court when he was called to open his defence.

The court bailiff said that several hearing notices had been served on him, including through substituted means via WhatsApp, but he failed to appear.
