Court dissolves marriage after couple agreed on divorce

An Area Court sitting in Ilorin, Kwara State, on Tuesday, dissolved an Islamic marriage between AbdulKareem Ramata and Suleiman Yahya on mutual agreement.
The Presiding Judge, Idris Etsu, while delivering the ruling, said that since the two parties agreed on divorce and there was no need to force them on each other.
Mr Etsu thereby dissolved the marriage and awarded custody of the three children in the marriage to the wife.
The judge ordered the husband to pay N25,000 monthly for feeding of his three children and be responsible for their education and hospital bills.
He, however, granted the husband unrestricted access to his children as stated in the Shariah law just as she ruled that the children should observe Eid (festive) periods with their father.
Earlier, the wife applied for divorce, custody and maintenance, due to lack of love.
The husband agreed on divorce, accepted that the ex-wife should have custody of the children, but prayed that the court to allow the children spend their holidays and Eid periods with him.
He also asked to pay N20,000 monthly maintenance on the three children and “would try his best to pay for their school fees and hospital bills.”
