A Chief Magistrates’ Court, Wuse, Abuja, on Thursday discharged a 33-year-old mechanic, Abiodun Adeun charged with theft of 30 yards of communication cable.

The Magistrate, Farida Ibrahim, discharged Adeun following his guilty plea to the charge and warned him against committing similar crime and urged him to be of good behaviour.

The magistrate said, “The items have been recovered from Adeun but if he is brought back to court again for crime, he would be sentenced accordingly.’’

Earlier, the prosecution counsel, Faith Sunday, told the court that the complainant, Elvis Daniel, reported the matter at the Garki Police Station on July 3.

Ms Sunday said that Adeun went to Melita Plaza, Area 11, Abuja to repair a generator for a tenant but stole 30 yards of communication cables in the process.

The prosecution counsel said that during police investigations the cables were recovered from Adeun.

She said the offence contravened the provisions of Section 288 of the Penal Code.

Adeun, however, pleaded guilty and begged the court to temper justice with mercy.
