An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday remanded 23-year-old Waheed Olalede over alleged armed robbery and assault.

Mr Olalede was arraigned by the police on a three-count charge bordering on conspiracy, armed robbery and assault.

The prosecutor, Supol Josephine Ikhayere, told the court that the defendant committed the offences with others at large.

She alleged the offences occurred on May 31 at about 11:00 p.m. at ‘Y’ Junction along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Ketu.

According to her, Mr Olalede and his accomplices conspired to commit a felony involving armed robbery and assault.

The police alleged that the defendant robbed Hammed Alagbe of an Infinix Smart 10 mobile phone.

The phone was valued at N150,000, while the victim allegedly lost N200,000 cash during the incident.

The prosecutor further alleged that Mr Olalede and his gang members were armed with three cutlasses.

It was alleged that the suspects used the weapons to attack and assault the victim during the robbery.

The police accused Mr Olalede of unlawfully beating Mr Alagbe with cutlasses, causing him physical injuries.

Ms Ikhayere told the court that the offences contravened Sections 411, 297 and 172 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State.

The defendant’s plea was not taken before the court during the proceedings.

The Magistrate L.A. Owolabi ordered that Mr Olalede be remanded in a correctional facility.

According to the court, the order will remain in place pending legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

The magistrate adjourned the matter until August 12 for mention.
