Court remands teacher over the abuse of two-year-old child

An Ajegunle Magistrate Court on Tuesday remanded a teacher with Unic Vilos Montessori School, Lagos for beating a toddler.
The teacher identified as Joy Odili was apprehended by the police following a complaint lodged by the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Response Team (DSVRT) at Festac Police Station on Monday.
The police then arraigned her after an investigation.
Peoples Gazette had earlier reported that the school teacher physically assaulted a two year old toddler.
During the interrogation by Lagos officials, the teacher confessed that the child was beaten by her because she was distracting the class.
When contacted by The Gazette, the proprietress of Unic Vilos Montessori, Stella Omowele, claimed that the toddler’s mother is a relative. She asked the reporter not to worry about the matter because the family has resolved the matter.
“We have resolved the issue. It is a family issue, the child is my sister’s daughter. Don’t worry, the family has resolved the issue,” she said.
In contrast, Faustina Ohamadike, the mother of the two-year-old child who was physically assaulted, said that she is not a relative of the school owner, and the issue has been reported to the state government.
It is not a family issue; whatever the proprietress say is a lie. I am the mother of the child, and we are not related. The case is between the school and the government,” she said.
