An Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court on Thursday ordered the remand of three defendants, Omoyajowo Kehinde, Matthew Olorunlogbon, and Fadahunsi Segun, in the Ado-Ekiti correctional centre over alleged conspiracy and attempted murder.

The defendants – Kehinde, 36; Olorunlogbon, 29; and Segun, 29 – of unknown addresses are standing trial on a two-count charge of conspiracy and attempted murder.

The prosecutor, Akinwale Oriyomi, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on March 16 at about 10:00 a.m. in Ado-Ekiti.

He alleged that the defendants conspired among themselves and attempted to kill one Akinleye Paul.

Mr Oriyomi said the complainant parked his car by the roadside; the defendants accosted him, demanded parking space fees, he told them he had no money, and they beat and injured him.

The prosecutor said, “The complainant was rushed to the hospital, where he is receiving treatment.’’

According to him, the offences contravene Sections 314 and 241(a) and (b) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.

The plea of the defendants, was however, not taken.

Counsel to the defendants, Adeyinka Opaleke, urged the court to grant the defendants bail, with a promise that they would not jump bail.

The prosecutor did not oppose their bail application, but expressed doubt on the availability of the defendants in court.

The Chief Magistrate, Abayomi Adeosun, ordered the remand of the defendants, pending the issuance of the legal advice.

He adjourned the case until May 5 for mention.
