Court sentences man to 24-hour community service for stealing

A Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Tuesday sentenced a 52-year-old man, Samuel Jidenu, to 24 hours of community service for stealing.
Delivering judgment, Chief Magistrate N.A. Layeni convicted and sentenced Jidenu after pleading guilty to the two-count charge of felony and stealing against him.
He said the prosecution was able to prove the case beyond reasonable doubt, with exhibit tendered against the convict.
Earlier, the police prosecutor, Inspector Edet Ekpo, told the court that Jidenu committed the offence on August 6 at Povita site of Prime Meritean, Badagry, Lagos.
Mr Ekpo added that Jidenu broke into the compound of Levitikol Group of Companies with intent to commit a felony and stole 10 pieces of golden iron belonging to the company.
The prosecutor said that the golden iron was valued at N100,000.
He explained that the offences contravened sections 308 and 287 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.
