Court voids Pantami’s emergence as Gombe PDP governorship candidate
Justice Amina Mohammed of the Federal High Court, Gombe Division, has voided the emergence of a former minister of Communication and Digital Economy, Isa Ali Pantami, as the 2027 governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in Gombe State.
The judge also ordered the party to conduct a fresh primary election for its governorship aspirants.
In a judgment delivered on Thursday, Justice Mohammed ordered the party to conduct a primary election in accordance with the party’s guidelines and relevant electoral laws.
An aspirant, Usman Garry, filed a suit challenging the emergence of Mr Pantami as the PDP governorship candidate.
Mr Garry filed the suit after the party announced Mr Pantami as its governorship candidate on June 26, 2026.
He argued that the party did not conduct the required governorship primary election.
Mr Pantami who was a minister under the late president Muhammadu Buhari dumped the APC for the PDP in May and clinched the party’s 2027 governorship ticket.
