COVID-19 pandemic forces OPEC to postpone conference to 2022
The Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries has postponed its international seminar to June 29-30, 2022, following travel restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Peoples Gazette learnt that OPEC had earlier scheduled its annual seminar for June 16-17, 2021.
In a statement published on the OPEC website, Mohammad Sanusi Barkindo, OPEC Secretary General, said the decision was taken after close consultation with stakeholders and member countries.
“Though this was not an easy decision to make, our utmost priority is the safety and health of all participants. We look forward to building on our past achievements and holding an even more successful seminar again in 2022.
“We thank the Hofburg Palace, the City of Vienna, and the Austrian government for their support and flexibility in facilitating this change,” said the OPEC boss.
The seminar’s participants customarily include ministers from OPEC member countries, countries participating in the ‘Declaration of Cooperation,’ other oil-producing, oil-consuming nations, and heads of international organisations.
Others are chief executives of national and international oil companies, other industry leaders, academics, analysts, energy experts, and journalists from specialised media.
