The Committee of Wives of Lagos State Officials on Tuesday called on Nigerian women to go beyond setting boundaries to be self-reliant and enrich their communities.

The COWLSO Chairman and wife of the Lagos State governor, Dr Claudia Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, made the call during its 24th National Women’s Conference holding in Lagos.

The ongoing conference was organised by COWLSO to address various challenges women face.

The theme for the 2024 NWC is, “Soar beyond boundaries… Enrich communities.”

Dr Sanwo-Olu said the annual event also aimed at empowering and supporting women to become independent, while realising their full potential.

“It’s a time to bring women from all walks of life, empowering and inspiring participants on professional development, networking and personal growth. It aims to spur a positive change among women in Lagos State, Nigeria and the world at large,” she said.

Mrs Sanwo-Olu noted that women play crucial roles in modern society, and also serve as the bedrock of homes, families and organisations.

“We cannot deny the fact that women make invaluable contributions across various sectors, and their influence is paramount in shaping a progressive and equitable world. Soar Beyond Boundaries…Enrich Communities is apt in view of the need to further encourage women to be self-confident and break boundaries in order to breast the tape in whatever field they desire. When women soar beyond boundaries, they will enrich communities and this brings unique insights and priorities for them to advocate for policies that address the needs of citizens,” she said.

She urged women to challenge the status quo by contributing immensely to the world economy, working hard and positively influencing the world with transformative contributions.

Mrs Sanwo-Olu cautioned women, including wives, mothers and captains of industries, against allowing anyone, even society to set boundaries for them.

The Senior Special Assistant to President Tinubu on Sustainable Development Goals, Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, said women owed it as a duty to impact their world, starting from their communities.

Ms Orelope-Adefulire, who received the ‘Inspirational Woman of the Year award,’ urged women to work with the state government to ensure that children on the streets are back in schools.
