The new area comptroller of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Ogun 1 Area Command, Godwin Otunla, has advised economic saboteurs and smugglers to desist from their illegitimate businesses or be apprehended by its personnel.

Mr Otunla gave the advice on Friday in Idiroko, saying his administration’s approach to apprehending smugglers and economic saboteurs would be firm, fair and intelligence-driven.

“Let me sound a clear note of caution to the economic saboteurs and smugglers, who may wish to test our resolve, that the command under my watch would not tolerate any economic saboteurs.

“The command will deploy all lawful means to combat smuggling and enforce compliance with extant trade laws and regulations,” he said.

The comptroller solicited the support of officers and men of the command in the fight against smuggling.

He enjoined the personnel to remain committed, disciplined and professional in the discharge of their duties.

Mr Otunla said that for the command to succeed, the personnel must work as a team embracing unity of purpose, adherence to ethical conduct, and pursuit of excellence.

He reiterated the command’s commitment to enforcement, intelligence-led operations, stakeholder collaboration and community relations to combat economic saboteurs and smugglers around the border.
