Customs hand over 3,461 parcels of cannabis intercepted in Ogun to NDLEA

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Ogun 1 Area Command, said
it intercepted 3,461 parcels of Cannabis sativa with a total duty paid value (DPV) of N1,553,580 in various locations of the state.
The area comptroller, Olukayode Afeni, disclosed this while handing over the drugs to the Commander, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Idiroko Special Area Command, Idiroko, Olaniyi Ekundayo, on Thursday.
Mr Afeni said that the handover was in line with the commitment to strengthening partnerships with other security agencies to combat drug trafficking and the proliferation of small and light weapons and to ensure a safer society.
According to him, as part of inter-agency collaboration, the service is handing over the intercepted parcels of cannabis sativa to the commander of NDLEA.
He said, “We are appealing to all the traditional rulers to educate their youths on the danger of using drugs.”
The area comptroller reiterated the command’s commitment to fighting smuggling activities that posed serious health and security problems to the nation.
In his response, Mr Ekundayo said that the fight against the scourge was not for NDLEA alone but a collective responsibility of everyone.
He lauded the commitment and dedication of the Customs Ogun 1 Area Command for always being on the field to apprehend stubborn smugglers and curb the menace.
