Davido, Burna Boy, Wizkid lead Trace’s inaugural award nominations

Nigerian Afrobeats trio, Davido, Burna Boy, and Wizkid are among the top contenders at the 2023 Trace inaugural award.

The list of nominees was released on Monday by Trace with some of the finest names on the continent and outside it going head to head in highly competitive categories.

The nomination came on the heels of their successful outings as they make Afrobeat recognised globally. 

 While the trio have made the list in an unsurprising fashion are Burna Boy and Davido who clinched four nods each in ‘Best Male’, ‘Song of the Year’, ‘Best Live’, ‘Best Collaboration’, ‘Best Artist’, and ‘Album of the Year’.

Others are Wizkid, Yemi Alade, Tiwa Savage, Fireboy DML, Ayra Starr, Olamide, and Asake.

Trace chairman and co-founder Olivier Laouchez, said, “We congratulate all the nominees, most of whom will attend and perform in Kigali on 21 October. It will be an unmissable experience for lovers of African and Afro-inspired music.”

The 22-category-award which will be broadcast live to over 500 million people in 190 countries is slated for October 21, in Kigali, Rwanda. 

The trophy for the winners was crafted by the renowned Congolese sculptor and designer, Dora Prevost.
