Nasiru Magarya, speaker of Zamfara House of Assembly, has been issued membership card by the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, following his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Mr Magarya had joined the state governor, Bello Matawalle, to defect from the PDP to APC.

The presentation took place on Wednesday at the House of Assembly, Gusau, and was made by APC’s national committee on membership revalidation exercise in the state, led by Ibrahim Kabir.

Presenting the card to the speaker, the committee chairman, who was represented by a member, Tahir Tahir, said APC was happy with the defections of former PDP members to the party.

He said that the party had mandated the committee to register all APC members in the state since previous registrations had been cancelled with the emergence of Mr Matawalle as the new leader of APC in Zamfara.

Mr Tahir called on all APC members in the state to ensure they revalidate their membership.

In his remarks, Mr Magarya said he would mobilise both new and existing members to obtain APC membership cards, saying, “We are in the party with all sense of commitment and we shall remain so to ensure our victory in the 2023 general elections and beyond.”
