Poor crowd control measures by officials is said to almost leading to stampede as delegates arrive Eagle Square, venue of the All Progressives Congress (APC) 2022 National Convention. 

Accredited journalists are said to be finding it difficult to gain entrance into the venue, while security officers are being overwhelmed by the crowd and finding it hard screening people in. 

A delegate who came from Canada to attend the convention recounted his ordeal to journalists at the venue. 

“They sent us mail that we should be here by 7:00 a.m., we were here. Later, they sent us another mail that we should come at 9:00 a.m., they gave us tag, took us in a bus, brought us here. 

“We were taking around this place for almost one hour, they couldn’t let us in. Finally, they told us to form a line, we formed the line, they started beating us, stealing our phones, as I am talking to you we are still standing outside. This is not acceptable. The government has to be aware of this,” he lamented.

Party officials are also dealing with supporters of aspirants, who without proof of accreditation, are breaking protocol to get into the venue. 

Unable to contain the crowd, the police and other security officials fired teargas canisters and used Taser on the crowd, almost leading to a stampede. 

More delegates are still being expected into the venue of the event, scheduled to start by 3:30 p.m.
