Delta House of Assembly on Tuesday passed the Film and Video Censors Board Bill to boost the state’s economy.

The passage of the bill during plenary in Asaba followed the consideration of a report by the chairman, House Committee on Arts, Culture and Tourism, Bernard Odior.

While presenting the report, Mr Odior (PDP-Isoko North) noted that the executive bill had 49 clauses.

He also said the bill, when passed, would help boost the revenue base of the state and create employment for people.

The bill was later read and adopted clause-by-clause before the Committee of the Whole House chaired by the speaker.

Consequently, the majority leader of the assembly, Emeka Nwaobi, moved a motion for the third reading and passage of the bill, which Mr Odior seconded.

The speaker, Dennis Guwor (PDP-Warri South West), put the motion to a voice vote, and the lawmakers unanimously adopted it.

Responding, Mr Guwor, who commended the lawmakers for their commitment towards passage of the bill, said it would help to create employment for people.

”At the committee of the whole, the bill was considered and scrutinised clause by clause in line with the Standing Rules of the House.

”The passage of the bill will help to regulate the activities of film and video works in the state as well as boost the state’s internally generated revenue,” he said.
