The speaker of the Delta House of Assembly, Dennis Guwor, says arrangements are being concluded for a special interactive session between the current and former lawmakers.

The event, tagged “Non-sitting Members’ Session,” is slated to be held in the assembly complex in Asaba from Wednesday, November 12, to Friday, 14.

Mr Guwor disclosed this during Wednesday’s plenary session, describing the plan as a landmark initiative to strengthen legislative collaboration and institutional continuity.

”The governor and former speaker, Sheriff Oborevwori, is expected to attend the session, alongside several former speakers of the assembly.

”Other dignitaries expected at the session include Mr Emmanuel Okoro, Mr Kent Omatsone, Mr Martins Okonta, Mr Victor Ochei, and Chief Monday Igbuya.

”Also attending are Mr Basil Ganagana, Mr Frank Enekorogha, Mr Peter Onwusanya, and Dr Olise Imegwu,” the speaker said.

He announced the constitution of a five-member organising committee, chaired by Deputy Speaker Arthur Akpowowo.

Other members of the committee are Austin Uroye, Perkins Umukoro, Festus Utuama, and Bridget Anyafulu.

The deputy clerk (administration), Smart Edge, was appointed the committee’s secretary.

Meanwhile, the speaker’s chief press secretary, Nkem Nwaeke, described the initiative as innovative and unprecedented in the history of the assembly.

Mr Nwaeke emphasised that the session would help promote peace, unity, and development while enhancing institutional memory and continuity.

According to him, the meeting will help to harness the experiences of former lawmakers to strengthen the legislative process and promote sound decision-making.
“The speaker’s leadership approach demonstrates foresight and dedication to bridging gaps between past and present legislators,” Mr Nwaeke said.
