Delta commissioner’s foundation launches N10 million skill acquisition scheme for youths

A non-governmental organisation, Goodnews Obiodeh Foundation, has unveiled a N10 million skill acquisition empowerment scheme for youths in Igbide Community, Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta State.
Founder of the organisation, Goodnews Obiodeh, announced the initiative at the Igbide Community Annual Conference on Friday.
Mr Obiodeh, who is the Commissioner for Lands, Surveys and Urban Development in Delta State, said that the scheme was in line with the “Opportunities for All” of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s MORE Agenda.
He said that the scheme would not only benefit the trainees but also those who had already acquired skills but lacked the resources to establish their business.
Mr Obiodeh said that while his previous focus was on educational scholarships, it was time to empower Igbide youths with skills and tools that would make them self-reliant.
He stated, “The empowerment scheme is designed to tackle unemployment and reduce dependence among the youth. Beneficiaries will be provided with starter packs to enable them to begin their entrepreneurial journey immediately.’’
The commissioner also announced the cancellation of a N5 million cash earlier loaned to the Igbide Community for the smooth take-off of the current administration of the kingdom.
He, however, reiterated his commitment to the social and economic well-being of his people.
