Delta govt lauds progress on N50 billion Orere bridge project

The Delta government has expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of work at the N50 billion Orere Bridge project in the Ughelli South Local Government of the state.
The commissioner for works (highways and urban roads), Reuben Izeze, gave the commendation while inspecting the project on Friday.
The Orere Bridge, when completed, would connect more than 30 communities in the Ughelli South and Bomadi local governments.
Mr Izeze noted that the contractor, J.U. Obakpor Engineering Company, had demonstrated remarkable resilience and adherence to specifications.
He added that a milestone had been achieved in the ongoing project.
Mr Izeze described the project as a clear testament to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s unwavering commitment to completing inherited projects.
“From both ends of the bridge, about 500 metres of reinforcement and blinding have been completed.
“We’ve been assured that in another three weeks, we should be able to drive across the bridge. That gives us confidence that this project is firmly on course,” Mr Izeze added.
He disclosed that the firm was sourcing sharp sand from Kaiama and Bomadi through barges, a process that required significant logistical effort but had not slowed down the pace of delivery.
The commissioner emphasised that the project, valued at about N50 billion, underscored the governor’s seriousness in keeping his promises to the people.
Mr Izeze commended the communities of Orere and Ewu for their cooperation, assuring them that their patience would soon yield fruit.
The managing director of the company, Ricardo Oguma, reaffirmed the firm’s determination to deliver the project by March 2026, despite challenges such as waterlogged terrain and complex material transportation.
