Delta police arrest two suspected cultists, native doctor with weapons

Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have arrested two suspected cultists in Warri, Ughelli North Local Government Area, after finding dangerous weapons allegedly hidden in the vehicle conveying them.
In a statement on Wednesday, the command’s spokesperson, Bright Edafe, said the Eagle-Net Surveillance Team arrested the suspects during a routine stop-and-search operation along Otokutu Bridge on Tuesday.
Mr Edafe said, “On 18/06/2025 at about 12:20hrs, Eagle-Net Surveillance Team stationed at Ughelli North LGA, while on Routine stop and search duty along Otokutu Bridge, Warri intercepted a black Toyota Corolla car with registration number RSH 90 RC driven by one Telvin Richmond m’, aged 27 years of Opete by Otokutu and one Frank Obiorah m’, aged 26 years of the same address.
“The vehicle and the suspects were subjected to a thorough search of the car, a locally made cut-to-size gun, two (2) yellow hand-bands inscribed with NBM “neo black movement”, one battle axe and a wooden pistol, all concealed inside the compartment of the vehicle doors.”
He said preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects are members of the Aiye confraternity, one of whom bought the gun in 2024 for N87,000 from another suspect currently at large.
Mr Edafe also disclosed that operatives of the special anti-kidnapping and cybercrime squad arrested a native doctor on June 14, 2025, after guns and a cutlass were recovered in the ceiling of his Ibusa residence.
He said, “In an earlier development, operatives of the special anti-kidnapping and cybercrime Squad, while carrying out an investigation against a native doctor by name- Okonji Chimeze m’ 47 yrs of Umuehe Quarter Ibusa, on 14/6/2025 at about 0630hrs, acting on credible intelligence, operatives of the special anti-kidnapping and cybercrime squad stormed the suspect’s residence at Ibusa.
“A search warrant was executed in the premises of the suspect during which two automatic pump-action guns and one cutlass were recovered hidden inside the ceiling of the suspect’s room.”
The police spokesperson said the suspect and the exhibits found on him are now in police custody, as the investigation is ongoing.
