Disney’s Beauty and the Beast singer Peabo Bryson dies at 75

American singer and actor Peabo Bryson has passed away at the age of 75 after suffering a stroke.
He was known for his iconic performances on Disney classics Beauty and the Beast and A Whole New World.
The two-time Grammy Award winner passed away on Tuesday, June 2, surrounded by family and loved ones, just days after suffering a stroke and a month after celebrating his 75th birthday.
His family confirmed his death in a statement, describing him as a beloved artist whose music touched generations of fans worldwide.
In a statement, his family said, “For more than five decades, Peabo’s extraordinary voice served as the soundtrack to some of life’s most cherished moments. His music carried generations through joyful celebrations, great love stories and enduring moments of comfort and inspiration.”
The late singer was born on April 13, 1951, in Greenville, South Carolina, where he developed a passion for music from an early age, performing in local groups before pursuing a professional career.
In the 1970s, he began his recording career, standing out for his smooth blend of R&B, soul and pop. He gained recognition through major hit songs, including Reaching for the Sky, Feel the Fire, I’m So Into You, Can You Stop the Rain and If Ever You’re in My Arms Again.
His work reached new heights in the 1990s when he won two Grammy Awards for his Disney collaborations. Earned his first Grammy alongside Celine Dion for Beauty and the Beast in 1992 and a second with Regina Belle for A Whole New World in 1993.
With both songs becoming key soundtracks in Disney’s animated classics Beauty and the Beast and Aladdin.
In 2019, Bryson suffered a life-threatening heart attack but made a successful recovery and returned to performing. He recently shared the stage with Jeffrey Osborne during a concert in Georgia in May.
The veteran had also announced several dates for his Golden Touch Tour later this year in celebration of more than five decades in the music industry.
Over 50 years of his career, he sold millions of records worldwide, leaving a legacy in music and on screen that inspires generations to come.
