The Igbogbo/Baiyeku Local Council Development Area (IBLCDA) has provided free medical services to more than 350 residents of Elepe community.

The Optimal Wellness Outreach, held at Methodist Primary School, Elepe, aimed to bring accessible healthcare closer to residents across the LCDA.

Beneficiaries received free consultations and treatment from doctors and other health professionals during the Saturday outreach.

Medical teams also conducted blood pressure, blood sugar and Hepatitis B screenings to help residents identify potential health risks.

Residents equally received eye examinations and free eyeglasses where necessary, while those requiring specialised treatment were referred for further medical attention.

Health professionals also provided health education and wellness counselling, emphasising preventive healthcare and healthier lifestyles among beneficiaries.

Speaking at the programme, the Chief of Staff to the chairman, Wasiu Olowu, commended residents for their impressive turnout.

Mr Olowu said the council remained committed to implementing programmes capable of improving residents’ welfare and quality of life.

The Secretary to the Local Government, Qudus Oduntan, described the outreach as the fulfilment of an earlier commitment to Elepe residents.

“Today’s programme demonstrates that the promise made by our chairman to Elepe residents is not just a promise; it is being fulfilled,” he said.

Mr Oduntan urged residents to continue supporting the administration and utilise its various developmental programmes designed to improve their welfare.

The council chairman, Hammed Aroyewun, thanked Elepe residents for their continued support and promised additional interventions targeting infrastructure and community wellbeing.

Mr Aroyewun announced plans to rehabilitate Oba Ijaolu Road in collaboration with Babajimi Benson, representing Ikorodu Federal Constituency.

He said the rehabilitation would improve connectivity and ease movement within the community while enhancing residents’ access to surrounding areas.

The chairman also identified the reconstruction of the C5 Ward at Elepe Health Care Centre as one of his administration’s major interventions.

“We are committed to ensuring that our people have access to quality healthcare and other basic infrastructure,” Mr Aroyewun said.

He said the reconstruction of the C5 Ward formed part of efforts to strengthen healthcare delivery and improve services within the community.

“The reconstruction of the C5 Ward at Elepe Health Care Centre is one intervention we are carrying out to improve healthcare delivery,” he said.

Mr Aroyewun also cautioned youths and other residents against drug abuse, warning that hard drugs could cause devastating and irreversible consequences.

“Drug abuse is dangerous and can cause irreparable damage to the body,” he said, urging youths to protect their future.

He advised residents to avoid hard drugs and other substances capable of destroying their health, prospects and wellbeing.

On security, Mr Aroyewun urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to relevant security agencies.

He specifically advised residents to monitor uncompleted buildings, warning that criminals could exploit such locations for illicit activities.

The chairman called on residents to cooperate with security agencies by providing useful information that could help maintain peace.

Some beneficiaries who spoke with journalists commended the council for bringing free healthcare services closer to them.

They described the initiative as practical evidence of the administration’s commitment to residents’ health, particularly those unable to afford medical services.

The IBLCDA administration reaffirmed its commitment to extending the Optimal Wellness Outreach to other communities across the LCDA.

The council said the initiative would support preventive healthcare and improve residents’ overall wellbeing.
