Doctors at the Albert Einstein hospital, where Brazilian football icon Pelé has been receiving treatment for respiratory infection aggravated by COVID-19 since November, say the 82-year-old is responding well to treatment.

On Monday, the hospital revealed that the football great was showing signs of stability and improvement. It, however, did not state when Pelé would be discharged.

He is “conscious and has stable vital signs,” according to a statement from the hospital.

The three-time World Cup champion has been in and out of hospital since he was diagnosed with colon cancer in 2021, undergoing chemotherapy.

Kely Nascimento, Pelé’s daughter, based in the U.S., is optimistic about his father’s situation and backed it up with several social media images holding her father’s hand, with the message, “I arrived.”

Some of those images also showed her remotely working from the hospital.

The Santos legend has also expressed optimism about his recovery, urging everyone to remain positive in a Facebook post last month.
