The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO), has called on citizens to report overzealous operatives of the directorate who infringed on the rights of road users.

FCT VIO spokesman Kalu Emetu said that it was possible that a few of the personnel operated beyond VIO standard.

Mr Emetu, therefore, said it was imperative for citizens to report such officers to FCT VIO headquarters, Mabushi, rather than fight with them.

“If you feel your rights might have been infringed upon by our operatives, report such persons to the directorate rather than engage in physical or verbal fights,” he added.

He said that there are disciplinary measures in place for men of the service who act against the rules of the directorate.

The spokesman said that officers and men of the service had been cautioned not to react when provoked, but always see themselves as servants to the public.

“We teach them to be courteous and to report offenders rather than take laws into their own hands,” he said.

Mr Emetu further called on road users to cooperate with men of the service in the discharge of their statutory duties.

“If a motorist play by the rules there wouldn’t be reasons for confrontations,” he added.

Mr Emetu, however, frowned at the maltreatment and embarrassment of VIOs by road users in the FCT, warning that those found doing so should be ready to face the law.
