Driver arraigned over alleged attempt to steal

A 43-year-old driver, Ademola Johnson, was docked before a Chief Magistrates’ Court, Wuse, Abuja, for alleged attempt to commit theft.

The prosecuting counsel, Faith Sunday, told the court that the complainant, Danlami Napkur reported the matter at Utako Police Station on July 19.

Sunday alleged that the defendant went to Zintel Plaza, Utako and destroyed a lawyer, Wisdom Elume’s split air conditioner outdoor unit worth N200,000.

She said that the offence contravened the provisions of sections 95 of the Penal Code.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty.

The defence counsel C.I Nnemeka made a bail application pending the defendant’s trial citing sections 158 & 162 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA ).

The Magistrate, Hafsat Amiru granted the defendant N500,000 bail with two sureties in like sum.

She ordered that one of the sureties must be a civil servant.

Ms Amiru added that the sureties must produce identification cards.

She adjourned the matter until August 20 for hearing.
