The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency said a truck driver was found dead after crashing into a pedestrian bridge pillar at Agric Bus-Stop in the Ikorodu area of Lagos state.

“The trapped truck driver in the cabin who lost his life in the incident has been extricated with light duty rescue equipment in the ongoing operation,” the statement said in part.

According to a statement issued on Wednesday by the permanent secretary of LASEMA, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, an articulated truck conveying a 40ft container was involved in the lone accident on the expressway.

Mr Oke-Osanyintolu said the accident could be attributed to brake failure, loss of control of the truck after crashing into a BRT demarcation and pedestrian bridge pillar.

He said emergency responders are in the process of recovering the crash truck and container.

The agency’s boss advised motorists to ply alternative routes within the area.

“Motorists playing that axis and those with intents of traversing that area are implored to be patient and use alternative routes as directed by Emergency Responders, as traffic has been diverted during this recovery period. Please bear with us while the operation lasts.”

The agency added that the deceased’s body was handed over to the State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit (SEHMU).
