Driver, mechanic jailed for stealing phone

A magistrate’s court in Jos, on Tuesday, sentenced a 24-year-old mechanic, Ishah Adamu and a 20-year-old driver, Abdulhamid Aminu, to one year in prison each for snatching a woman’s phone.
The magistrate, Shawomi Bokkos, summarily tried and sentenced the convicts after they pleaded guilty to the charge.
Ms Bokkos, in her judgment, gave the convicts an option of a fine of N50,000 each.
She also ordered the convicts to pay the complainant a compensation of N40,000 each or face a six-month prison term on default.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Ibrahim Gokwat told the court that the case was reported at the ‘A Division Police Station on May 19 by Esther Philip, the complainant.
Mr Gokwat said the convicts connived and snatched the complainant’s phone in a tricycle.
The prosecutor said that the offence contravened the Plateau Penal Code Law.
