Drug dealer jailed three years

The Lagos Division of the Federal High Court, on Tuesday, convicted and sentenced a 30-year-old man, Nurudeen Olalekan, to three years in prison for drug trafficking.
Mr Olalekan was arraigned on a count charge of illegal deal in hemp.
He pleaded guilty before Justice Daniel Osiagor.
After his plea, the court reviewed the facts of the case, with counsel to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), N.J. Mamza, tendering several exhibits.
Some of the exhibits were the statement of the defendant, a request for a scientific aid form, a drug analysis form, and a remnant of the illicit substance.
She prayed the court to convict Mr Olalekan based on his guilty plea and the exhibits.
The court admitted the exhibits in evidence and consequently convicted and sentenced Mr Olalekan.
The judge, however, gave him an option of N500,000 fine, and ordered that the illicit substance should be destroyed.
According to the NDLE, Mr Olalekan committed the offence on December 18, 2023, at the Akerele area of Lagos.
The agency said Mr Olalekan dealt in five kilogrammes of hemp, in contravention of section 11(c) of the NDLEA Act of 2004.
