The Idiroko command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ogun, has advised motorists to refrain from excessive speed in order to minimise mishaps during the forthcoming Easter celebration.

Charles Daramola, unit commander of FRSC, Idiroko, gave the advice while speaking with journalists on Wednesday in Ota, Ogun.

Christian faithful will celebrate Easter across the country between March 29 and April 1.

Mr Daramola emphasised that motorists must be cautious of the consequences of speeding beyond limits, especially during the Easter festival, which is the cause of most crashes recorded in the state.

The unit commander also admonished motorists against drunk driving and the use of mobile phones while driving.

“We are appealing to all motorists to use their seatbelts and desist from wrongful overtaking and dangerous driving to stem the tide of accidents during Easter.

“In addition, they should obey traffic rules and regulations, especially along the Idiroko-Ota road and its environs, to prevent unnecessary loss of life.”

Mr Daramola stressed the need for motorists to plan their journeys and refrain from nighttime travel in order to get to their destinations safely.
