Gov. Yusuf inaugurates Kano disease control centre

Governor Abba Kabir-Yusuf of Kano State has inaugurated the newly constructed edifice of the Kano State Centre for Disease Control (KNCDC) to strengthen the state’s capacity to detect and curb outbreaks of communicable diseases.
The governor on Monday commissioned the facility located within the Infectious Disease Hospital (IDH) in Kano.
He said the facility was established to coordinate efforts to control the spread of communicable diseases such as tuberculosis, AIDS, HIV, meningitis and other infectious diseases.
The governor urged health officials to ensure the judicious utilisation of the facility for the benefit of the people of the state.
“I am commissioning this gigantic health project, which was conceptualized and executed by the present administration.
“This centre, which is named Kano State Center for Disease Control, is meant to control all communicable diseases such as AIDS, tuberculosis, HIV, meningitis, etc.”
He expressed appreciation to the development partners and officials of the Ministry of Health for their contributions to the establishment of the centre.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Health, Abubakar Labaran-Yusuf, said the governor had fulfilled his promise to establish a disease control centre for the state.
Mr Labaran-Yusuf stressed the importance of the centre for the effective control of disease outbreaks in the state.
He said development partners such as the World Health Organization (WHO), African Field Epidemiology Network (AFENET), FHI 360, Core Group, FCDO, Lafiya, eHealth Africa and others played significant roles in the establishment of the centre.
