Ebonyi CP seeks media support to tackle crime, promote peace
The Ebonyi State Commissioner of Police, Urunwa Okafor, has sought for media support in the fight against crime, urging journalists to uphold professionalism, objectivity and accuracy.
Ms Okafor made the call in Abakaliki during a courtesy visit to her by members of the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ebonyi State Council on Sunday.
She described journalism as a noble profession and watchdogs of society.
“Your job as journalists is very critical. It requires a sound mind and good conscience. You should discharge your duties professionally. You should be seen to have lived above board in your duties by society,” she said.
The commissioner also condemned the negative perception some members of the public have about the police due to the misconduct of some officers.
According to her, the actions of a few erring officials should not be used to judge the entire police force.
Ms Okafor noted that many officers had made enormous sacrifices in protecting lives and property across the country.
She reaffirmed her commitment to ensuring the security of lives and property in Ebonyi State and urged residents to promptly report security concerns within their communities for swift police response.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Correspondents’ Chapel, Ebonyi State Council, Uchenna Inya, said the visit was aimed at strengthening media relationship with the police in securing the environment.
