Ebonyi family law centre recorded 353 cases in 11 months: Official

The Ebonyi State Family Law Centre said it handled a total of 353 cases between January and November 2024.
The chairperson of the centre, Elizabeth Nwali, said this while briefing journalists on the centre’s performance in 2024 on Wednesday in Abakaliki.
The centre provides critical services such as resolving civil and family disputes.
According to Ms Nwali, out of the total number of cases, 273 cases were resolved, nine are still in court, 10 were referred to the police, two were withdrawn and 59 are still pending.
She identified the cases handled to include domestic violence, property disputes, child custody, threat to life, abduction and refund of bride price.
Others are forceful ejection, child stealing, conspiracy and land disputes.
Ms Nwali said that the centre, which provided critical services in resolving civil and family disputes, required urgent attention to enable it to continue to operate effectively.
She identified some of the centre’s basic needs as fans, electricity reconnection, and mobility.
The chairperson appealed to the state government for intervention in upgrading its dilapidated facility and providing basic amenities to enhance its performance.
“We are appealing to the Governor Francis Nwifuru-led government to come to our aid,” Ms Nwali said.
