Ebonyi governor’s wife pledges protection of girl’s rights, tackle gender-based violence

Wife of Ebonyi Governor, Mary-Maudline Nwifuru, has reaffirmed her commitment to defend the rights of the girl child and combat gender-based violence in the state.

Mrs Nwifuru made the remarks on Tuesday when she led a road walk to mark the 2024 Ebonyi Women’s Day Celebration.

The event is titled, “Uplifting women for sustainable development.’’

She emphasised the importance of reporting any form of abuse against women and children to her office for prompt action.

She stated. “I assure the public that we’ll continue to defend the girl child and boy child. We’re fighting GBV and against any maltreatment, whether at home or elsewhere.’’

Mrs Nwifuru urged everyone to report any maltreatment or abuse, adding that “We’re mothers, and we’re ready to fight against abuse.”

She also commended Governor Francis Nwifuru for providing women with opportunities in his administration, demonstrating his support for women’s empowerment.
