At least 100 youths and women from Ebonyi have benefited from a government-sponsored training programme in various skills as part of the present administration’s efforts to address unemployment in the state.

Deputy Governor Patricia Obila said this on Tuesday, when the participants paid a courtesy visit to her in the government house in Abakaliki.

Mr Obila said that the training, which lasted for three months, covered exhibition and empowerment.

She said the participants were trained in vocational skills, including information and communication technology, building construction and production, dressing, and POP.

Others included video editing, painting, content creation, tiling, barbering, hairdressing, tailoring, graphics, and web design, among others.

The deputy governor expressed the Governor Francis Nwifuru-led administration’s commitment to youth empowerment and job creation.

She urged the youths to continue supporting government policies on job creation to ensure that young people are properly engaged as future leaders.

Earlier, the state Commissioner for Skill Development and Job Creation, Elija Okwu-Oko, said the training was held between August and November.

“The training offered a lot of skills and entrepreneurship to enable the beneficiaries to become self-reliant and able to train others.

“This is a milestone for youth empowerment. This is a sign of good governance through the governor.

“The youths today are happy because Ebonyi is on the move,” he said.

Speaking on behalf of the participants, Chisom Akam thanked the state government for the good gesture.

“We hail the governor for the opportunity and impact on youth development and empowerment,” Mr Akam said.
