ECOWAS donates $250,000 to Ghana flood victims
The Economic Community of West Africa State (ECOWAS) has donated US$250,000.00 to victims of flood in Ghana, following devastating floodwater that killed at least 13 persons in the country’s capital, Accra.
The Foreign Minister of Ghana, Samuel Ablakwa, announced the donation on Sunday.
“I wish to announce, in the spirit of transparency and accountability, that the Foreign Ministry has just been notified by ECOWAS that they have decided to donate US$250,000.00 (about GHS3million) to Ghana for victims of the recent devastating floods,” he said.
He stated that the ministry would hand over the funds as soon as it received the ministry’s account.
Mr Ablakwa expressed appreciation to the donor for its solidarity and African compassion.
The development This development followed Ghana’s president, John Mahama’s disclosure that the amount of rainfall recorded was the highest experienced in several years in the country.
He added that the preliminary data indicated that approximately 140 millimeters of rain fell in Accra.
The Peoples Gazette earlier reported that the ministry announced that it would replace citizens’ passports lost or damaged following the devastating floods in the country’s capital.
