Edo Assembly passes bill for re-establishment of Customary Court of Appeal

The Edo House of Assembly has passed a bill to repeal the Edo State Customary Court of Appeal Law 2025 and to enact the Edo State Customary Court of Appeal Re-establishment Bill.
The bill was considered and adopted after a clause-by-clause correction at the committee of the whole in Benin.
Thereafter, the speaker, Blessing Agbebaku, directed the clerk of the house, Audu Omogbai, to forward clean copies of the bill to Governor Monday Okpebholo for his assent.
In the same vein, the parliament also received the report on a bill to provide for the protection of government properties.
The bill to establish the state Property Protection Committee and for other matters connected therewith was submitted by the chairperson of the Committee for Security and Public Safety, Maria Edeko (Esan North-East II).
The report, which has four findings and one recommendation, sought to provide for the protection of government establishments and properties and other matters connected therewith.
According to her, some gaps were discovered in the bill during the committee sittings, and necessary amendments were duly made.
Subsequently, the parliament adopted the report as presented by the committee.
Mr Agbebaku, however, called on all members to conclude all pending committee assignments for presentation and consideration before the house adjourns until Monday, October 27.
