Edo chief judge, Justice Daniel Okungbowau, on Wednesday, in Benin, donated toiletries, food items and an undisclosed cash to Project Charilove Orphanage to kick off the 2023/2024 Edo legal year.

Items donated were bags of rice, garri, cartons of Indomie and toilet rolls, amongst others.

The chief judge who visited the facility alongside judges and some judiciary staff members, explained that it was customary to visit the centre and give back to the society every year at the beginning of the legal year.

He thanked God for the lives of the caregivers at the centre and also prayed for God’s guidance as they carried out their jobs.

In his response, the priest in charge of the facility, Rev. Fr. Anselm Uguagada, thanked Mr Okungbowa for the visit.

He noted that the centre was in dire need of support from well-meaning individuals in the society.

Mr Uguagada also said that the facility was facing challenges such as feeding, accommodation, medical emergencies and personnel shortages and appealed for assistance.

Project Charilove is a development initiative based in Benin City, the Edo capital.

It provides special education and vocational training for the deaf, the blind, the physically handicapped and the mentally -handicapped.

The high point of the event was the donation of the aforementioned items as well as the cash donation for the use of the facility.

Prior to the visit to the orphanage, the chief judge had led the state judiciary staff members on a fitness walk as part of the activities lined up for the beginning of the new legal year.
