The Edo State Command of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has got a new controller of corrections. He is Julius Osemwengie.

In a statement by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Aminu Suleman, on Sunday in Benin City, Mr Osemwengie assumed duty on Friday as the 21st substantive head of the command.

His assumption of office, Mr Suleman said, followed a posting order issued by the National Headquarters of the service in Abuja.

The command’s spokesperson said Mr Osemwengie was until his deployment to Edo State, serving as controller in charge of Social Works and Welfare at the national headquarters.

He said the new controller took over from the immediate past Controller, Sunday Oyakhire, who retired from service.

In his address to officers and men of the command, he said that Mr Osemwengie expressed gratitude to the Controller-General of Corrections, Sylvester Nwakuche, for the opportunity to serve in the state.

“I am here in Edo State to achieve security, productivity and progress,” the new controller was quoted as saying in the statement.

He said the NCoS boss emphasised the importance of professionalism and teamwork, urging personnel to work collectively to ensure the command was recognised for excellence in the discharge of its statutory duties.

He said the controller, however, assured both staff and members of the public that the service under his leadership would pursue greater achievements across all aspects of its mandate, including the welfare of officers and inmates.

He added that the new controller gave the assurance that the Edo State command would remain committed to effective custodial and non-custodial operations in line with national objectives and best practices.
