The Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) has arrested Mkor Aondona, an aide to Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia, over allegations of cyberbullying and sextortion targeting “slim and attractive” female students.

EFCC said operatives arrested Mr Aondona, the governor’s special adviser on documentation, research and planning, on Friday in Makurdi, Benue State capital.

The commission noted that it was acting on petitions filed by several women who accused the suspect of mandating sexual benefits from them in exchange for jobs.

“Operatives of the Makurdi Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, have arrested the Special Adviser to the Executive Governor of Benue State on Documentation, Research, and Planning, Dr Mkor Aondona, for alleged sextortion and cyberbullying,” the EFCC said in a statement on Saturday.

The commission added, “He was arrested on Friday, June 20, 2025, in Makurdi following claims of some female students accusing the governor’s aide of unethical and criminal behaviour involving sexual exploitation, cyberbullying and blackmail.”

According to the EFCC, Mr Aondona allegedly preyed on slim and attractive women under the guise of ushering job opportunities before pressuring them into having sexual affairs with him before they could be selected.

Furthermore, the commission alleged that Mr Aondona often secretly recorded some of those sexual encounters without his victims’ consent, which he subsequently used as blackmail and sometimes released to the public through various messaging platforms.

“The petitioners alleged that Aondona was routinely recruiting slim and attractive girls for ushering jobs and insisted on sexual favours as a condition for selection,” the EFCC said.

“Based on this, they became vulnerable to having sexual affairs with him but unknown to them, he had videos of every sexual act without their consent and was always threatening to leak the videos if they refused to continue having sex with him.”

Meanwhile, the commission added that the suspect is expected to be charged to court soon.
