The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) has felicitated Muslims on the occasion of Eid-el-Fitr, urging unity, sacrifice and collective responsibility among Nigerians.

This is contained in a statement signed by its National President, Muhammad Ibrahim, on Friday in Abuja.

Mr Ibrahim congratulated Muslims on the successful completion of Ramadan, describing the fasting period as a demonstration of discipline, resilience and devotion to Almighty Allah.

“Abstaining from food and water for long hours daily reflects deep devotion and total submission to the will of Almighty Allah. We pray that Allah rewards the sacrifices abundantly and accepts them as sincere acts of worship,” he said.

He said that Eid-el-Fitr symbolised faith, obedience and sacrifice, and urged Nigerians to reflect on their shared responsibilities, especially amid prevailing socio-economic challenges.

He, however, expressed condolences to victims of the Maiduguri bombings and called for strengthened security to protect lives and prevent further attacks.

The SSANU president noted that rising inflation and economic hardship continued to affect university workers, and commended members for their resilience and dedication in spite the challenges.

He urged the Federal Government to hasten renegotiation talks with SSANU and NASU to ensure fairness and restore confidence in the university system.

Mr Ibrahim also called for practical measures to cushion the effects of inflation, including improved welfare, wage adjustments and policies that support workers’ well-being.

He stressed the need for unity across regions and beliefs, urging Nigerians to remain committed to building a just, stable and prosperous nation.

He urged SSANU members to remain steadfast and hopeful, stressing that better days would require collective effort, courage, and purposeful engagement.(NAN)
