Ekiti police arraign man for unlawful cattle grazing

The police in Ekiti on Friday arraigned 50-year-old Ladan Abubakar before the Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged unlawful cattle grazing.
The defendant of no fixed address is standing trial on a one-count charge of unlawful cattle grazing.
The prosecution counsel, Akinwale Oriyomi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on April 1 at about 07:30 a.m. at Ewu-Ekiti.
Mr Oriyomi alleged that the defendant unlawfully grazed his cattle in an unauthorised place.
He said the offence contravened Section 2 and was punishable under Section 7 of the Prohibition of Cattle and Other Ruminants Grazing Law of Ekiti State.
Mr Oriyomi urged the court to adjourn the case to enable him to study the file and assemble his witnesses.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge against him.
The counsel for the defendant, Opeyemi Esan, urged the court to grant his client bail, promising that he would not jump bail.
The chief magistrate, Abayomi Adeosun, granted the defendant N100,000 bail with one surety in like sum.
He adjourned the case to May 12 for a hearing.
