Ekiti records first rain of 2024

On Tuesday night, ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti capital, recorded the first rain in 2024.
The rain, which started suddenly without any prior signs, did not last more than 30 minutes.
It started at about 10:15 p.m. and ceased at exactly 10:45 p.m.
Reports had it that among areas where it was recorded in Ado-Ekiti were Emirin, Oke-Ureje, Olokemeji, Odo Ado, Ijigbo, and Okeyinmi, among others.
The rain, which caught residents unawares, was not accompanied by a storm.
Local sources said some commuters who arrived at their homes late and who needed to trek some distances were soaked in the rain, which poured in torrents for the few minutes it lasted.
It was also learnt that the rain’s impact varied with location, with light showers in some parts and slightly heavy in others.
Meanwhile, mixed reactions have greeted the early arrival of the year’s first rain.
A farmer, Kunle Olorunfemi, who specialises in growing vegetables, pepper and fresh fruits, said it was a welcome development, as it would help him on his farm.
A housewife, Morenikeji James, expressed delight, saying it was a great relief and had reduced the hot weather created by the dry season.
“I am indeed happy that the first rain of the year fell without a storm, and there was no report of any destruction of property.
“If you observed, the weather had been so hot and unfriendly for some time now. I believe this rain will help create a relief,” Ms James said.
