An Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court on Thursday remanded a 32-year-old truck driver, Isah Abdulrahman, over the alleged theft of 900 bags of cement valued at N9.5 million.

Mr Abdulrahman, a driver with Gilbert Igweka Global Concept Nigeria Ltd., Ado-Ekiti, is facing charges of conspiracy, fraud and cybercrime.

The chief magistrate, Abayomi Adeosun, did not take the defendant’s plea but ordered his remand in a correctional centre.

Mr Adeosun adjourned the case until September 25, pending the issuance of legal advice by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

Earlier, the police filed a Form K application, urging the court to remand the defendant pending legal advice.

The prosecutor, Akinwale Oriyomi, told the court that the defendant allegedly committed the offences between May and July in Ado-Ekiti.

Mr Oriyomi said the defendant, a former driver, was assigned a truck loaded with 900 bags of BUA cement for delivery to one of the company’s customers.

He alleged that the defendant and an accomplice diverted the cement, sold it to an unsuspecting receiver and drove the truck to an unknown location.

The prosecutor said the police later tracked the truck to the location and alleged that the defendant tampered with its tracking device.

He added that the defendant also damaged and removed one tracking device installed in the truck.

Mr Oriyomi said the alleged theft involved cement valued at N9.5 million, while the defendant allegedly tampered with a tracking device belonging to Gilbert Igweka Global Concept Nigeria Ltd., Ado-Ekiti.

He said the offences contravened Section 1(3) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Related Offences Act, 2026.
