Elon Musk announces new political party weeks after fallout with Trump

Weeks after a public spat with President Donald Trump, tech billionaire and X owner Elon Musk has announced the launch of a new political party to rival the Republican and Democratic parties.
Mr Musk announced the launch of the “America Party” in a post on X on Saturday. He said the party aimed to save the U.S. from waste, graft, and the monopoly of one-party rule.
“When it comes to bankrupting our country with waste and graft, we live in a one-party system, not a democracy,” Mr Musk said. “Today, the America Party is formed to give you back your freedom.”
Although it is unknown whether the party has been registered by relevant authorities in the U.S., it comes as the U.S. Congress on Thursday passed Mr Trump’s landmark Big Beautiful Bill.
Mr Musk criticised the bill and fell out with the American president, whom he funded and campaigned for during the November 2024 election.
The tech billionaire, in a now-deleted tweet, accused Mr Trump of being in classified FBI files relating to the disgraced paedophile financier Jeffrey Epstein.
“Without me, Trump would have lost the election, Dems would control the House, and the Republicans would be 51-49 in the Senate. Such ingratitude,” Mr Musk said in another post on X in the heat of his public spat with Mr Trump.
