The Igbo-Etiti Local Government Area in Enugu State has signed a partnership agreement with Nigeria’s telecom giant, Globacom Limited to improve telecommunication services in the area.

The collaboration seeks to expand network coverage, enhance connectivity, and provide better access to mobile and internet services, particularly for rural communities.

The Council Chairman, Dr Eric Odo, speaking with the Globacom team in his office in Ogbede on Friday, expressed optimism about the partnership’s potential to improve the telecom network in the area.

He stated that the collaboration would enhance service quality, bridge communication infrastructure gaps, and drive economic growth by improving access to technology and information.

Mr Odo emphasised that the partnership would help close the IT gaps in the region and promote greater IT compliance among the local population.

He also disclosed that his administration would equip the new Tech Hub with 250 laptops to serve as a Computer-Based Test centre for WAEC, JAMB, and other examination bodies.

He said that the initiative aligned with his campaign promise to empower the youth through technology, enabling them to build sustainable careers.

In response, the team leader and Globacom South East Regional Head, Chikeokwu Ikenna, thanked Mr Odo for the opportunity to partner with the telecom company.

Mr Ikenna noted that the partnership would not only deepen connectivity and internet penetration but also enhance revenue generation for the LGA, calling it a “game-changer.”

He emphasised that in the 21st century, businesses relied on technology to thrive, and Globacom was ready to provide the necessary infrastructure.

Mr Ikenna further assured that Globacom would ensure that its network service reached communities within the LGA.

The event ended with the presentation of the partnership certificate to the Local Government chairman and the distribution and registration of SIM cards to the residents.
