The Parent-Child Intervention Centre (PCIC), a non-government organisation, has donated palliatives to 42 survivors of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) in Enugu.

Peggy Chukwuemeka, who presented the palliatives to the beneficiaries on Thursday, said what the SGBV survivors needed most was food as they go through gradual emotional and physical healing.

Ms. Chukwuemeka, the organisation’s executive director, said after evaluating the needs of the survivors, “We came up with the decision to distribute food to them, especially those with children.

“With these food items, we hope to give them some relief for a while until they become economically empowered, which is one of our objectives.”

She commended Actionaid Nigeria and Global Affairs Canada for their support toward making the donation possible.

A beneficiary, Nneka Obum, thanked the organisation for assisting her and her children.

“We are not finding it easy to survive since I ran out of my matrimonial home with my children when my husband turned uncontrollably violent.

“With these palliatives, I believe we can feed well for some months from now,” Ms. Obum said.

The items included 42 bags of 25kg rice, 42 bags of 20kg beans, 20 bags of 50kg garri, seasoning, groundnut oil, and three bags of salt.

Others were 42 cartons of noodles, tin tomatoes, onions, and some cartons of baby milk.
