Bruno Fernandes scored the winner of the match as Manchester United came from two goals down to secure a 3-2 victory over 10-man Nottingham Forest at Old Trafford.
United found themselves behind within the opening four minutes of the game after Nigeria’s Taiwo Awoniyi put the visitors ahead barely two minutes in, as he became the first Forest player to score in seven consecutive Premier League matches.
Awoniyi also became the third African footballer after Mohamed and Emmanuel Adebayor to find the net in seven successive Premier League matches.
Two minutes later, the Red Devils’ woes were compounded in front of the home crowd after defender Willy Boly surprisingly doubled the lead for Forest with a sleek header from close range.
Christian Eriksen reduced the deficit for United in the 17th minute thanks to an assist from Marcus Rashford. Seven minutes after the break, Casemiro levelled the game with a header off a training ground move.
In the 67th minute, Forest were reduced to 10 men after Joe Worrall was given a straight red card following a foul on Fernandes, who looked to have been through on goal.
Fernandes would go on to complete the comeback in the 76th minute from a spot-kick as United picked all the maximum points to bounce back from the shambolic 2-0 defeat to Tottenham last weekend.
Speaking after the game, Man United manager Erik ten Hag admitted his side displayed a horror show in the opening minutes of the match, but was pleased with the way the players responded to complete a comeback win.
“Horror start, giving them two goals and making mistakes, but I am very pleased with the comeback- the leadership, how we stayed calm and composed, the belief to turn it around. I think we played very good football. Out of our plan, we scored very good goals.”
Meanwhile, at the Emirates Stadium, Joao Palhinha scored a late goal as 10-men Fulham held Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal to a 2-2 draw right on their turf.
Less than one minute into the game, former Manchester United player Andreas Pereira put Fulham ahead after the Brazilian capitalised on a short back pass from Bukayo Saka to Aaron Ramsdale.
Saka redeemed himself in the 70th minute after equalising for Arsenal with a penalty kick. Two minutes later, Edward Nketiah put the Gunners upfront for the first time in the match.
In the 83rd minute, Fulham were reduced to 10 men after Super Eagles defender Calvin Bassey was given the marching order for picking up a second yellow card in his first Premier League start.
Palhinha skillfully rounded Harrison Reed’s corner kick past Ramsdale to grab a sensational equaliser for Fulham as Marco Silva’s side were rewarded with a hard-earned point from the match.
