The European Union will provide an additional €5.2 million ($5.55 million U.S.) in humanitarian aid to Libya.

According to the European Commission on Monday, the money would go to humanitarian organisations working in Libya with a focus on providing shelter, health, food, water, sanitation and hygiene, and protection.

The latest announcement brings to $5.7 million U.S. the EU’s financial support for Libya to deal with the damage caused by storm Daniel.

Some EU countries have also sent relief supplies and expert teams to the disaster area.

Also on Monday, EU crisis commissioner Janez Lenarcic sent his condolences after five rescue workers from Greece were killed in a car accident in Libya over the weekend.

“We express our condolences to all those affected and wish a speedy recovery to those injured,” he said.
