A former Nigeria international, Chikeluo Iloenyosi, has declared his intention to contest the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) board.

He seeks to represent the South-East zone at the federation’s next elections.

Mr Iloenyosisaid on Sunday that his ambition was driven by football development.

He said the South-East had suffered setbacks and deserved stronger representation within the federation’s structure.

He said, “I’m not coming out for fun. I’m coming to ensure whatever belongs to the South-East gets to us.”

He criticised ineffective representation, saying the region needed leaders who could deliver measurable opportunities.

The former defender outlined plans to improve appointments of match commissioners across the South-East.

He also pledged regular training seminars for coaches and referees.

Mr Iloenyosi said grassroots football would remain central to his agenda if elected.

He added that community programmes would help unite football stakeholders across the South-East, citing reforms in Anambra Stare as evidence of his administrative ability.

He said, “I have shown my brothers my capacity. With little government support, I reformed football in Anambra State.”

He said the state was gradually regaining its status as a football hub, stressing that his ambition extended beyond securing a board seat.

He stated, “Football in the South-East must rise again. My goal is to restore our zone’s rightful place.”

He also backed current NFF leadership under Ibrahim Gusau and Sanusi Mohammed.

MrIloenyosi said his mission was service, not financial gain, saying, “I’m not coming because of money. I’m coming to support football and help us get it right.” (NAN)
